Despite her current association with salt water, Diana Nyad is a slight case of nominative determinism.

Form BBC writer "Robbo" previews the upcoming Premiership season.
Worth it for the end of the Angel Rangel line alone.

MrB: That is one anarcho-pinko (hard for USians to understand) PL preview!

I'm counterbalancing all of the "TOP TEN WORLD EVENTS IN WORLD SPORTS IN THE WORLD EVER" lists from ESPN and SI that are always nine mentions of Kirby Puckett and "That time Pele did that thing!"
For people not blessed with a grasp of rhyming slang you can just revel in the picture of Steve Bruce.

Wigan 13th? He's quite mad, but that was entertaining anyway. Wigan barely survived before they sold off N'Zogbia. It's Blackburn, Wigan, Norwich down for me.
Spurs' season will depend on how disaffected Modric is after not getting his transfer, but they still haven't bought the striker they need and their defense is still suspect (not Arsenal suspect, just suspect). Friedel will at least be a calm presence in the back. I don't see them finishing above Arsenal, but they certainly could; it's going to come down to whether Arsenal is more hopeless than Spurs are hapless. I wouldn't be surprised to see both squads missing out on the Champions League regardless.
Here's my out-on-a-limb prediction: Liverpool will finish higher than Man City.

Errant: I sure hope you're right. I think unless injuries intervene this will be one of the most competitive seasons at the top in a long time.

From the Guardian's coverage of the cricket this morning:
I love the fact that despite everything - 109 people were arrested in Birmingham last night - no one has seriously broached the idea of calling this Test off. The football? That was canned straight away. But cricket? Well, lets all keep calm and carry on. We'll still be playing cricket in England when the rapture comes. It's what we do. The first world war was two months old before they got around to cancelling the county championship.

Tendulkar in, Tendulkar out. Not his tour so far.

Saddened to find out that Diana Nyad came out of the water during the overnight. I had been following her progress on the Cuba-Florida swim. An inspirational attempt, regardless.
