It always surprises me when a manager can't find a way to get along with a great player in a way that affects the team. It just seems like bad management and too much ego.

Don't rub it in, Canadians. Just seems crazy that the Cardinals gave him up for this package, but I guess the GM's hand was forced. I am ready for the post-La Russa era and have been for a while; as I noted in the Huddle thread yesterday, Tony does not play well with youngsters or those for whom things come easy or who do not play the game according to Tony's self-defined "right way" (although he does play well with scrappy middle infielders who remind him of himself and one-out relief scrap-heap types).

As a Cardinal fan, I don't see what all the fuss is about. I sure wish Colby well but it was time for him and the team to move on. He's had enough time to show that he can reach his potential here but it just wasn't happening. If he isn't tough enough to reach that potential just because he doesn't like his manager then TLR and Mozeliak did the right thing.

He's only 24 years old.

Even if it was time for him and the team to move on, It didn't cost Toronto better than it's sixth best prospect (Stewart, according to the Baseball Today podcast yesterday) and a good middle reliever (Frasor). For an everyday centre fielder. Did no one else want Rasmus? He's not even going to be a free agent until 2016. It's just a bit shocking.

I can't believe the Cards gave him up when they might be losing Pujols at the end of this year, unfulfilled talent or not. Ugh.
