This just in: U.S. to host Women's World Cup: In a decision that came as a surprise to no one, FIFA has decided to award the 2003 Women's World Cup to the United States after relieving China of its hosting duties due to the SARS virus. Gee, I wonder what the odds will be against anybody other than the Americans winning the World Cup?

Just as America is catching up to the rest of the world in men's footy, the rest of the world is catching up to America in women's footy. America will be the favourites, but there are four or five teams who could win.

Hey, bill, go ahead and by some tickets for me and the wife and the kid, too. If they come to the Bay Area (esp. that Stanford stadium -- nice), we'll see you there! Tailgate party!

Unfortunate timing but if they hold a game in the South Bay that has difficulty selling out, I will buy a pair of (the cheapest) tickets just to be supportive.
