Game Over: Contradicting some of baseball's most cherished clichés, statistics show that your team's fate may well be sealed by June 1. As Yogi Berra said, 'It gets late early out there.'

Then there's the 1987 Brewers.

Started off 13-0. At 20 games in, they were 18-2. But by 40 and 60 games in, they were only 4 games over .500. Halfway through the season, they were a game under .500. People were poking them with forks.

But they roared back and finished 20 games over .500. What a ride.

Unfortunately, their 91 wins was only good enough for 3rd place in the old AL East. No bubbly for them.

Then there's the 2005 Astros.

20-32 after 6/1/5 - made it to the World Series.

Both are exceptions that prove the rule. If the opposite was true there would be hundreds of examples not just two.
