Ron Artest wins NBA citizenship award. Deservedly so. Seriously.: The amazing part is of this is not that Ron Artest won the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award presented annually by the Professional Basketball Writers Association.

The amazing part is he deserved it.

Good for Artest. Redemption stories are always nice to read about.

Doug Smith of the Toronto Star and president of the Professional Basketball Writers Association.

This surprised me, for some reason. I guess it would be like seeing "Mike Davis of the Miami Herald and president of the Professional Hockey Writers Association".

I'm sure he's deserving, but that's not the first place I think about when that sport comes to mind.

This article genuinely makes me happy. Its inspiring to learn that Artest learned and grew from his experiences and is now reaching out to actively help young people with mental issues. Major kudos to him.
