Mavericks Blow 23-Point Lead as Blazers Even Series: After leading by 23 points with 2:49 left in the third period, the Dallas Mavericks lost 84-82 to the Portland Trail Blazers Saturday night. Their playoff series returns to Dallas tied 2-all. Blazers guard Brandon Roy scored a go-ahead jumper with 39.2 seconds left and Jason Terry missed a desperation three-point heave with time running out.

The Mavericks got no free throws the first half and finished with 10 to the Blazers' 23. I'm going to ask the same question I asked when they blew a 13-point fourth quarter lead in the NBA Finals game that would've put them 3-0 up over the Miami Heat: When you have a huge lead, why don't you crash the paint over and over and make them foul you? The foul shots will end their runs and make it harder for them to get any momentum.

The Mavs don't have anyone that's really good at doing this. I can't think of who I'd task with crashing through the paint. Though, I haven't seen many Mavs games this year.

Nice win for the Mavericks last night. I think they'll kill the Dream of the '90s on Thursday.
