Ottawa Senators fire Clouston : Florida Panthers fire Peter DeBoer

It didn’t take long for the axe to fall.....

Just hours after Ottawa’s final game of the year, a 3-1 loss to the Boston Bruins, Senators general manager Bryan Murray wiped the slate clean, firing head coach Cory Clouston and assistants Greg Carvel and Brad Lauer. The Panthers fired DeBoer on Sunday, one day after the team finished its 10th straight season without a playoff appearance. Florida's 72 points were worst in the Eastern Conference and the third-fewest in the 30-team NHL.

Yet Maurice is still behind the bench in Raleigh. *sigh*

I can not figure out why the Senators are keeping Murray.

5 years ago: coach of the Senators, reaches Stanley Cup finals, but pulls a power play and gets his GM fired so he can take over. Since then, he's taken a promising team and watched them get knocked out in the first round, miss the playoffs, get knocked out in the first round again, and miss the playoffs again.

As well, he's now fired his third coach in the past 4 years.

Most GMs get canned for this sort of failure, not 3 year extensions.
