London joins the hunt for the 2012 Summer Olympics.: Along with New York and Madrid, London seeks to the thirtieth Olympiad. Toronto and several others are probable bidders as well. With the mood of the IOC right now, London may be the only candidate from an English-speaking nation that has a legitimate chance to win.

I have doubts about whether Toronto will enter a bid. We've lost two strong bids already for "political reasons." Once the IOC decided that Asia, more specifically China, needed an Olympic event; no amount of bribery would have ever saved Toronto's bid. Toronto's last two bids have been strictly by the books, full of ethics and all that (I've even heard that criticized); and there's nothing to show for it. I think that people here are sick of the IOC and it's selection committee. I don't think that a third bid will get much support. Here's to Vancouver in 2010, though.

Heh. I remember back during the US selection process, when everyone said New York should win because the IOC would grant the Olympics to New York in a tribute sort of a gesture. How things change.
