Spurrier trades for Wuerffel, and wants to trade for Shane Matthews. Redskins fans nationwide scratch their heads in bewilderment. Does Spurrier really think he can recreate the magic that won a college national title in the pros? Wuerffel has never won a starting job in the pros, so I seriously doubt this will work.
And remember how successful Pitino was in Boston.

I'm not convinced that Spurrier made a bad move. Give him a line, give him a good cross route receiver, give him a deep threat, and I think Wuerffel can do just fine. Please dis me in a few if I'm wrong, but I think Danny can do well in the pros. Remember the awful years that Testaverdi spent at Tampa. Tools, its all about tools. And who better to know what tools Wuerfful likes than Spurrier. Damnit owillis, I think you gonna' have a contenda' .

Is there any reason the Gators' style of offense wouldn't translate to the NFL, and if so, wouldn't Wuerfful be the ideal QB? How does their offense compare to, say, the Rams?

Florida was successful mostly because they recuited great speedy athletes in their skill positions, and having a competent QB run Spurrier's system. It will be harder to sign such talent in the NFL, but obviously the Rams were able to do it.

I knew this was going to happen. This will go a long way to settling arguments about system vs. personnel. Do you think they will compete with each other and another serious candidate for the starting job? It is definitely interesting.

Not happy. Not happy. Danny Woeful? Not happy.

Aw, he's not too bad. He's adorable, like Tiny Tim in A Christmas Carol.

The Washington Post says that they're pursuing Shane Matthews as well as maybe Trent Dilfer. I will scream if Chris Chandler is the starting QB.

Snyder has deep pockets and the Skins have decent talent to land a trade with the Pats. I want to see Bledsoe slinging the pigskin for the Skins this year.

I wouldn't mind seeing Bledsoe in DC at all. Chandler is ok as long as he is healthy (which is generally about 5 games a year).

It gets better. Apparently the Skins are going to talk with the agents for Reidel Anthony, Jacquez Green and Willie Jackson. This, along with the drafting of Gaffney (if available), will really put Spurrier in a comfortable situation to say the least. Skins fans may not be rejoicing, but shouldn't the coach have the say in who plays on his team? Florida had a lot of success with these guys playing, so why not see what they can do together in the pros. I'm just waiting for the Skins to try to find some way to get Kearse from the Titans and Taylor from my Jags...this could also give those people who want the Skins to get a new name some hope. Washington Gators has a nice ring to it ;>

Why all the hubbub over Quarterbacks? I thought the new NFL was all about not letting your QB lose the game for you, and then having running backs, flashy receivers and defense win it.

I'm a Gator fan and can't figure out if this is a good thing or not. (and I'm conflicted enough about this since I'm a Giants fan and can't stand the skins...) I think that the system is going to do well, at least for a while, because it's new and different. just like with the Steeler's D being 3-4 still (and I remember when everyone was switching to 3-4 as the new hot thing). But it could turn out to be a fad, and then they'll be screwed. And obviously Wuerffel never faced a college front 7 like those in the NFL. There's something to be said about familiarity and level of comfort as well, and having a bunch of guys who have been coached by Steve berfore could be helpful. But I do worry that if it gets too UF-heavy, their comfort level will rise a little bit too high, and then they might overestimate themselves. But that's a guess. As for the Quarterbacks, I think that they'll be fine, they were perfect spurrier QBs then and they can be again. I mean, did you really think Wuerffel was that impressive in college (or Grossman? they both look the same to me)? No Florida QB has ever looked like a natural to me, with that wacky arm cock and short motion, for instance, but every year they excel. Put em back in that offense and they'll be fine. But I still hope they suck! :) Go G-Men!

Are we going to be calling Spurrier the Pitino of the NFL, remember how many ex wildcats Pitino had on his Celtic teams.
