Babe Ruth (would have) used steroids!:
Bill James talks about breaking the rules in America.

I like that he bases his conclusion that his speculation is correct because HE said it in previous articles. Damn, that's rich.

Of course Ruth would have used PEDs. The whole 'the game was pure and the players would have played baseball for free' BS is a fantasy.

That said, his premise, they would have done it, so it's okay if players did it today, sounds like something a kid would say when he's caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

And Clemens is going to trial because he lied to congress during a hearing he demanded. He seems to have forgotten that part.

If I were Babe Ruth, I would have used my wealth and fame to party all the time and sleep with hundreds of beautiful women from coast to coast and thanked God every day for living in a time with comparably minimal media coverage of my private life.

But that's off topic.

If I were almost anybody rich and powerful before 1960, my answer would be the same.

Well, he wouldn't have been in front of Congress if they hadn't shown a bizarre interest in how a single branch of the entertainment industry handled their drug testing.

Or if clemens wasn't an idiot. Both sides together are why he's facing jail time. Because I believe clemens to be an insufferable bore I'll concentrate on the latter.
