Football or Neutron Bomb?: Sao Paulo, Brazil. With a population upwards of 11 million people and a population density of more than 7,000 people per square kilometre, it is a pretty crowded place. But on July 2, 2010 during the second half of the Brazil-Netherlands World Cup quarterfinal, the streets were completely deserted (via MetaFilter).
I was fortunate enough to be in Brazil during the 2006 World Cup. During Brazil's group stage match with Japan, I was on a layover at the Sao Paulo Airport. The entire airport completely shut down for the game. Every arrival/departure screen had the game on, and people were clustered around every area watching. No flights in, no flights out. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

I like... Also, a sped up version of this with it starting about 1-2 hours before the game would be real cool...

That's awesome. I only wish they had a "before" video for comparison.
