Sun-Times Claims Kentucky Recruit Offered $200,000: A $200,000 deal was made to get a top Chicago high school basketball player to play at the University of Kentucky, the Chicago Sun-Times claimed this week in a subsequently yanked story that doesn't inspire much confidence (cached copy). The Sun-Times claimed "rumors/sources" indicated that the father of Anthony Davis, a highly recruited 6-10 high school senior, negotiated the deal with "someone" who wanted him to attend the school. The university and Davis' father both deny the allegation and the Davises are threatening a lawsuit.

Followed this last week, in my mind there's 2 possibilities:

1. Kentucky is being "Caliparied" much sooner than expected

2. An over-zealous reporter is looking for attention

That main link said that there were sources from three different universities saying that they Davis Sr. was looking for money. I have no doubt that parents of prized recruits do that sort of thing. I'm surprised that journalists aren't able to find out more stories on it.
