Word from Argentina is that Maradona is likely going to be asked to stay on for the 2014 tournament.

I wonder if this is partly due to the 2014 WC being sited in Brasil. A lot more fervor and emotion is at stake with Brasil being the host than if the tournament were going to be held somewhere off the continent, like Japan.

But the Argentine federation is supposedly going to ask Maradona to cut down the size of his coaching staff, which is troubling. He had an oversize staff for this year's WC, but it seemed as though he needed all that aggregate expertise for the team to get as far as they did given his utter lack of experience.

If they keep him on, however big his staff ends up being, someone needs to help him with the rostering. His imperiousness and inflexibility in that regard was a chief shortcoming that compromised the team's chances.

St Andrews from the air. Something that I didn't appreciate for a long while is just how much the Old Course is bound into the fabric of the city, especially compared to the high-fenced compound of Augusta.
