CFL Pick 'Em, Week 3: Picked the road team last week? Then you probably have points. Next continues much of the same, but as always, it won't count until you make your picks inside.

Week 2 lives up to its billing as all four road teams come away with wins. Toronto holds off the Bombers to snap their nine-game losing streak. Calgary wins a nailbiter in Hamilton with a last-minute field goal. Saskatchewan continues their offensive output with a blowout win over B.C., while Montreal mounts a huge comeback in a heartbreaker for the Esks.

With this week's unpredictable outcomes, points were a little harder to come by. But rahilsuleman puts together a nice little five-point week to move into the lead, while TBH and Weedy continue to slug it out in second and third place, and apoch nails the Montreal comeback to jump back into contention.

Next week starts early since the SkyDome is booked for something called a "Manchester United"—I assume that's a monster truck show. Get your picks in fast!

WEEK 3

Calgary @ Toronto (Wednesday, July 14) It's an opening day rematch. Toronto has a win, but are they improved enough to mount a challenge this time? Some say you gotta have faith, but Vegas likely says otherwise.

Winnipeg @ Hamilton (Friday, July 16) Down 0-2 faster than you can say Arland Bruce III, the Ti-Cats look to right the ship at home. But Winnipeg has been exceeding expectations so far, especially against Hamilton. They have to be given the edge this week.

Montreal @ BC (Friday, July 16) B.C. is cursing the league scheduling office as they open up their home sched with back-to-back games against the league powerhouses. Is this a third game this week in which the visitors are the favourites? ... yeah, probably.

Edmonton @ Saskatchewan (Saturday, July 17) Sorry Edmonton, but you're not going to make it four. Until the Esks prove otherwise, you can't help but bet big on Saskatchewan.

Good luck!

No joke this week. I'd just like to take this opportunity to inform my CFL colleagues of a major relocation of the owlhouse. Calgary by 13. From next week I will be residing in beautiful downtown Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Winnipeg by 15. Therefore, this will be my last set of tips submitted from down under. Montreal by 9. Next week they will be written in Khmer, based on the lines appearing in the Phnom Penh Post. Edmonton by 3. You never know, I might even be able to get the games on satellite when I'm in the northern hemisphere.

Do drop in if you're passing through and we'll go and have an Angkor or two.

Hey there,

argoal picked Calgary by 1 last week, and the points weren't registered. He only got 1 point for picking Calgary, but it should have been 3 points. I don't like handing points to other players, but I remembered because I was pissed that picking a team by 1 actually nailed the spread!

Hey Owlhouse, you really are the lucky one... World traveler, eh! Argos by 2. Dr JE, that is funny about the Manchester United event... I hear its just a small soccer club from across the pond. Winterpeg by 4. Does Cambodia have newspapers & tv's? Surprise, Surprise. Mont by 11. Riders are looking fairly solid, & Printers may not be 100%, so Green Machine maybe by 13.

Dr JE, don't forget 'Ying Yang Mafia's' picks he made last week in advance.

Good catch guys. I mistranscribed argoal's pick at CGY by 14 in my spreadsheet; sorry about that!

This means that argoal scores 6 points last week, for a total of 9 points and a share of second place.

Also this acts as an excellent reminder to double-check your picks every week! At least until the point at which I hire a robot to input them for me.

You've Gotta Go! referring to BC Lions outdoor stadium. Worth a read.

Dr. J, I think I should get a good sumaritan point for that 3 point catch. ;)

And yes, that BC Stadium is gorgeous - only cost $15 million and took just under four months to build. And as I sat at a TFC game in Toronto at ExPlace overlooking a sea of empty parking spots I wondered - as Chris Cuthbert also asked - why can't this be done in Toronto?

Apparently Wally Buono was also saying this is a great way to get stadiums into other venues for the CFL like Halifax, Quebec City, Moncton, and Saskatoon. Build the temp stadium, and then slowly make aspects of it permanent as money and time permits.

I have some folding chairs I'm not using. Maybe those can be the start of the Argos' new stadium?

Hmmm ... this is a tough week.

Calgary snuck that win last week against the Tabbies. Toronto surprised all with a win. A 6-and-a-half point spread is generous in Calgary's favour, I think. Dammit. Calgary's kicker just might have another win in him. Argos can be content that it's close after the divisional win last week. Calgary by 3

The rematch. Big surprise to many that the Bombers did what they did in Week One. The Tabbies are just coming up short so far. As much as I'd like to think they'll turn it around, I just like the Bombers this week. Winnipeg by 10

Hooey ... another tough one. Montreal is on an extended western trip. They didn't look so darn hot in E-town on Sunday ... just good enough to win. The loss (I'm assuming he's still gonna be out) of Printers just might be too much to overcome though. Montreal by 4
But dammit if the BC fans won't enjoy some tailgate fare and a nostalgic atmosphere before the final gun fires.

And if I may utter another curse word ... dammit dammit dammit. I had such high hopes for the EE this year. To be fair, the couple of drops and the last quarter picks didn't look so good for the Esks, but they still put up some pretty good numbers. That said, the Riders are on a roll and are likely to stay on it. The EE do need to find some chutzpah ... the Riders already found it. Saskatchewan by 21
I do realize this will mean a blowout for the NFL Network watchers, but the novelty of retro jerseys will hopefully erase that fact.

DEBATE! Showdown: Who is the best rookie kicker?

http://www.cfl.ca/article/showdown-who-is-the-best-rookie-kicker

My pick is for Argo's Grant Shaw

posted by argoal at 12:37 PM on July 14, 2010

Who is the best rookie kicker?

With only two games under their belts so far, I'm thinking that it's a bit premature to proclaim the best rookie kicker. But, I'll bite. Hard to argue with the argument made for Shaw, but I watched Maver in the preseason win the job handily. He did out-do DeAngelis last week. And just being in the proximity of Nick Lewis is going to help him develop that necessary swagger to be a good kicker. So, I'll throw my prediction down on Maver. Let's evaluate after Week 18 and see.

Thanks Spitztengle.

It was not pretty... but a win is a win.

We picked off Burris 4 times & held Reynolds to 44 yards, good D, even though their coverage was lacking at times.

Way to go Argos!

I don't know who watched the game, but the addition of Milt Stegall to the panel on TSN is a good one. He summed it up extremely well when he said (at the half), Calgary was showing us what they really are: a mediocre team (I may be paraphrasing a bit). But Reynolds, who's heralded as the best in the league, was not moving the football. It wasn't Smilin' Hank, it was Frank at the helm too.

Argos are a big surprise. Frankly, it's a pleasant surprise. Barker looks like he is really building something there. That might be too early to say confidently, but from this early success (albeit over "mediocre" teams") it looks like he's got something cooking in the Big Smoke.
