New Film Stars Eric Cantona as a Hallucination: The new movie Looking for Eric features soccer star Eric Cantona playing himself as a hallucination of the film's protagonist, a middle-aged postal worker in sore need of an imaginary friend. "Mr. Cantona shows up from time to time in Eric's bedroom, where the two men drink wine, smoke a little grass and exchange philosophical insights," New York Times film critic A.O. Scott writes.

If anyone is thinking about going to see this film I really can't recommend it enough. It came out in the UK/Ire last year. It is a black comedy, with plenty of bleakness in it, but then again it is a Ken Loach film, however I don't think it is too depressing.

Maybe its me but I never really thought of Cantona and pot together. Wine, ok, he's French. But the antithesis of a pot-induced mellow.

It was out in Australia last year, too. While we're being film reviewers, it isn't one of Ken Loach's best, and the plot is a bit odd in places, but it's worth a visit.

Eric's better in this one than he was in Elizabeth, but then he's only up against semi-professional actors and not our glorious Cate.

Oh wait - it's Ken Loach? That explains everything.

I'll check it out for sure.

I'm with Fence - couldn't recommend this highly enough. I cringed when I heard it was being made and assumed it would be a crappy vehicle for Cantona. Then I heard Loach was involved and thought it might be a non-crappy vehicle. Then I watched it and thought it was just a fine film and that Cantona was excellent.

The British trailer is here and some extended scenes here.

Here's Cantonaaaaaa... he's done it!.

One of the best goal celebrations ever. The physical embodiment of the line from the film (although said partly in jest): "I am not a man. I am Cantona."
