Reds Edge Cardinals in Civil Rights Game: The Cincinnati Reds defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 in the second annual Civil Rights Game held during baseball's regular season. The game, begun in 2007 during spring training to "embrace baseball's history of African-American players," has been expanded to cover all those who champion equality in sports. Ernie Banks, Willie Mays, Frank Robinson, Billie Jean King and Harry Belafonte were on hand to see the teams play in 1947 caps and uniforms, noting the year baseball's color line was broken. Banks threw the first pitch to Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips, the only black starting player in either lineup.
