Hidden: The History of the Beanball: Major league pitchers are hitting fewer batters now that steroid users aren't knocking so many outside pitches over the fence, the New York Times observes in a fascinating history of the beanball. One disturbing fact: The players who integrated baseball were hit more often. Jackie Robinson was in the top 3 most-hit batters seven out his first eight seasons.
