16-Year-Old Italian Amateur Makes Masters Cut: Italian amateur golfer Matteo Manassero, 16, became the youngest player in Masters history to make the cut at Augusta National with a two-round score of 147, right above the cut line. The youngest player to reach the weekend had been South African Bobby Cole, 18, in 1967. Last year, Manassero tied for 12th at the British Open and became the youngest winner in the history of the British Amateur. He turns pro next month.
Love these under-the-radar stories; tired of reading about Tiger, Tiger, Tiger ad nauseum. The kid's 11 down now; hope he can a little closer to the leader board by Sunday's end.
