Playing Basketball from the Closet: "I'm a pro basketball player and a gay guy at the same time, something which people don't easily accept in our world. After many years in this business and many years of putting one side of my life on hold, I decided that the least I can do for myself and others is to share a little of what I'm going through since it doesn't look like I'm going to be coming out any time soon." From Dime Magazine's post Secret Life of the Gay American Basketball Player (via MetaFilter).

This is cool. I hope he finds the courage to come out. I also hope the troglodytes don't keep him down.
The Gareth Thomas thing is also great - mostly because he's a walking stereotype buster. He's a freaking beast and one of the most manly men I've seen play the game.

On a somewhat related note, Rob Neyer linked to this graphical representation of openly gay players in major league baseball yesterday.

My favourite story from the end of last year was this. Gareth Thomas, ex-Lions and Wales rugby player (and current rugby league player) reveals that he is gay to a virtually unanimous reaction in Britain of "so what?"
I saw an interview with GT on Saturday about his new career in rugby league - he looks ten years younger since he told the world his secret. I hope this guy gets the same comfort some day.
