Nats: Dukes let go for on-field reasons: The Washington Nationals have released outfielder Elijah Dukes, a surprising move since the team was expected to start the 25-year-old in right field this season. Although Dukes has a troubled off-the-field history that includes several assaults, a restraining order by his wife and fathering five children by four women, the team said the move is strictly performance related.
Rob Neyer (kind of) makes the argument that the release of Dukes was justified on the between-the-lines merits.

It's cool rcade.
I don't get why the Nats would give up on Dukes so quickly if it's not related to off-the-field junk.
Neither do I. It seemed to me that Dukes put behind his past issues and was thriving in Washington. Sure his stats fell off a bit but he played in over 100 games and is a pretty decent outfielder, and he's only 26 years old. I hope that another team gives Dukes a chance to play ball.

and fathering five children by four women
Not impressed. Had it been four children by five women, then we'd be talking.

That one woman must feel pretty left out.

We posted this at the same time, so I merged the two posts. I don't get why the Nats would give up on Dukes so quickly if it's not related to off-the-field junk. Spring's only half sprung.
