Johnny Damon Reaches Deal with Detroit Tigers: New York Yankees free agent outfielder Johnny Damon has agreed to a one-year, $8 million deal with the Detroit Tigers, ESPN reports. Damon, who hit .286 with 24 homers last season, will likely bat leadoff. The move raises the question of why the Tigers traded outfielder Curtis Granderson in December, who is seven years younger and several million cheaper.
Oh, Detroit Tigers, do you just not want to have a winning season?

Official statement: I am okay with this.
(but not so okay with the exit of Hideki Matsui. It can only end in tears and broken crockery).

Disappointment seems like the best word to summarize the Tigers from the fall of 2006 to now.

Damon loves NY and the attention. I'm sure in the back of his head he's thinking when the tigers fall out of contention and the Yankees are ready to pull away in the division and throw the budget out the window he'll be a late season acquisition.

Trading Granderson would've made sense if we still had Cameron Maybin. But once he was traded, I'd figured they were going with Grandy as the future of the Tigers center field. This makes no sense...
