I must admit that one of the reasons I prefer to see football live is that I can see the whole shape of the game. The TV picture doesn't include a view of both backlines at the same time (for example), and foreshortens the view across the width of the play.

Unfortunately for my kids, going to the game with Dad means putting up with a stream of tactical analysis that makes Andy Gray seem like a Trappist monk.

Some sports will just always be better live. Heck, most sports are always better live.

As for this article, simply put, of course television is transforming the game. Television has transformed sport as much or more than sport has transformed television. This isn't a new development (cf. Benjamin Rader).
