Wish I'd gotten to see the Montana - Villanova NCAA football championship game yesterday.

I loved watching the Montana - App. State game last week. Great game in freaky Big Sky winter weather conditions.

Ahh, college football PLAYOFF games...what a novel concept.

And a scary one as well for the upper level decision makers that ought to know better and do better with their championship system.

Speaking of Appalachian State, I wonder if any NFL team will give Armanti Edwards a look at any position.

Ha. I stopped paying attention to the FCS playoffs when then No. 2 UNI managed to lose three of four coming down the stretch and miss the playoffs entirely after going 5-1 to start the season with the one loss being a 17-16 thriller at Iowa, a BCS bowl school this year. And UNI was two blocked field goals from winning that game. Pffff. And yes, I'm horribly biased.

I think Edwards deserves to get a look. He's as athletic as some of the other players that have a similar skill set that have found their way to the NFL. He has a good physical presence and stands in the pocket well.

He has proven that he can move the ball down the field and win games no matter how big the opponent. He's another guy with somewhat questionable looking mechanics, but he throws a good ball. His throws don't have the flat line zip of a Favre throw, but they get to the receiver more accurately and quickly than you think they will.

It seems like there is a steady stream of QB's like Edwards moving through the college ranks in the footsteps of Vince Young and Pat White. BJ Daniels at USF will be interesting to watch as he develops. Terrelle Pryor is on his way to being a more complete player. The guy at UTEP, Vittatoe, is raw and needs a lot of work, but has potential.

The versions of the Wildcat that some NFL teams put on the field can be pretty lame at times, but at least it creates a situation where teams are looking for various ways to put playmakers on the field. That bodes well for these guys.

If not the NFL, Michael Bishop will tell Armanti that there is probably an opportunity somewhere in the CFL.

I think this sounds like the most likely scenario. His type of playmaking could thrive up here and any number of teams would have him.

Hoser's picks?

posted by graymatters at 04:05 PM on December 19, 2009

Sorry for the delay, gray and everyone. Christmas has seriously been kicking our asses in our store, so I couldn't get them done until late this afternoon. You'll be glad to know, however, that neither the accuracy of our picks or the humour of our comments were lowered by the rush -- the bar is already so low for both it's not possible.

Nice to be missed, though. :)
