Peter Gammons is Leaving ESPN: ESPN just released a statement that veteran baseball broadcaster Peter Gammons is leaving the network this week after working there for more than 20 years. "The choice to move on was made with nothing but the strongest feelings for the people with whom I worked," said Gammons, who made note of how he was treated when he suffered a severe aneurysm three years ago.
Your calendar is broken.

I don't know why I typed 12th, I was thinking 8th. I have a page a day in front of me that say 8th, my phone says its the 8th. I read your comment couldn't figure out what you meant. I have no excuse for the brain fart.

I liked Peter Gammons. I just could not stand hearing him always talking about the Boston Redsox.

So Mr. Gammons is going to the MLB Network so now I only loathe December 8th. (Don't get me started on the 12th....)

He's also going to NESN to get his Sawx fix.

I figured Gammons would wind up on the MLB Network. He can now do his thing year-around on an all-baseball channel. Can't blame him at all.

Is there such a thing as a non-severe aneurysm?

I'm having one right now.

I met Mr. Gammons in the summer of 2004 when the NY/Penn League team I was interning with did a bobble head for him. He was at the ball park a good 3 hours before game time and would sit and talk baseball with anyone who wanted to. And he truly seemed like he wanted to talk with you, not just appease you. He signed autographs well into the game for anyone who wanted one. He is truly a class act and I consider my autographed Peter Gammons bobble head to be one of my most treasured items of sports memorabilia.
I hope from the way the press release is worded that he really is moving on to another network and not going to just retire (although he has more than earned the right to do so if that is what he chooses, and I would respect him if he did) or fade away.
Today is the 29th anniversary of John Lennon being shot and now it is also the day that Peter Gammons left ESPN. I really do not like December 12th.
