Shin Kicking: During the Cotswold "Olimpick" games, there are many rural events such as tug-of war and sledgehammer throwing, but Shin Kicking is the main event. The games date back to the 17th century and were outlawed in the 1850's. Resurrected in the 1950s, the games have increased in popularity and support. In an excerpt from his book 'True Brits', author JR Daeschner gives a first hand (or leg) view of the event. Video of event here. (ESPN)

One of the most beautiful parts of England. I have family there. Beautiful, apart from the shin kicking and clog dancing, that is. My female cousin is a champion at both.

Yeah, but the pints in the pub afterwards make up for the bruises.

You know you can get the beer without the shin kicking, right?
