'Massachusetts Rules': Last week, Amherst College took on their arch rival, Williams College, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first collegiate baseball game. The teams will use equipment and wear uniforms from the 19th century, and they will play 'Massachusetts Rules'. The 1859 game ended with Amherst winning with a final score of 73-32 after 25 innings. Just makes you wonder how damn funny it would be to allow put-outs by hitting the base runner with a thrown ball nowadays.

There was a picture of players playing chess in that slideshow. Is it the precursor to this?

Also, I was perusing the rules, wondering if the 1859 game was just tied for a long time before Amherst exploded for 41 runs in the 25th. Apparently, they played until 100 runs had been scored. Imagine if that rule was still in place today!
