Big upsets, indeed.: A couple of top seeds fell in the World Match Play Championship today, opening the brackets for mid-seeds to go a long way this weekend. Does this event (which has had Jeff Maggert, Darren Clarke and Steve Stricker as champions) live up to the hype, or is the unpredictable nature of match play what makes it exciting?

I love the match play format, but the unpredictable nature of these events keeps me from watching. Allow me to explain. ... I watch golf for the stars. I'll watch Tiger, Duval, Lefty, and the others, but when it's Jeff Maggert versus Darren Clark I tend to lose interest. Despite the fact that I enjoy match play and think it can lead to some of the most exciting entertainment in golf, it always seems to me that this second-tier of players make the finals. At that point, I'd I'd rather watch NASCAR.

Seeing how unpredictable this match play format can be makes me appreciate how amazing Tiger's three consecutive US Amateur championships is.
