Sandy Koufax has cut ties with the Dodgers because the New York Post, owned by the same company as the team, reported in December that he's gay. The paper retracted the item yesterday. "He has now made it a national story," writes Outsports. "People everywhere are hearing 'Sandy Koufax and gay' in the same sentence, a connection 99.9% of sports fans would not have made before. "

World champion bridge burner Keith Olbermann has written a letter about this controversy and sent back advance money for a book he was supposed to write for the same parent company, Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

This seems like a huge overreaction on the part of Sandy. I have met him and he seemed to be a pretty cool guy. Hopefully this will be resolved ... the Dodgers pitching rotation needs all the coaching they can get.

My mom used to date Sandy Koufax, and she doesn't think he's gay. (All portions of this statement are 100% true.)

I don't think it's really a huge overreaction. What the Post did was uncool and antithetical to any standards of journalism. They suck. They pulled the same shit with Piazza. I can understand Koufax being upset. I mean the story appears to have been made from whole cloth! There was no rumor, or gossip, or scuttlebutt of any kind to suggest that SF is gay. If the Post wants to be the Enquirer then fine but if they want to pretend to be a real paper then they have to raise their standards. btw, I'm not a big Olbermann fan but I aplaud his memo.
