Corey Koskie’s clear head: In light of recent discussions here and elsewhere which have shown us just how little we know about the effects of concussion, Gordon Edes writes an account of Corey Koskie's recovery process: a small step towards a proper diagnostic and treatment process for head injuries.

Interesting stuff, Dr. J. As time goes on, we learn more and more about head and neck injuries and their long-term effects. I'm familiar with what Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins and Brian Scalabrine of the Celtics have been going through lately as a result of concussions because of the coverage in the local newspapers. I fully understand the reaction Koskie ran into when he showed up at the ball park and people questioned his injury. It's natural, but it ignores medical evidence. There seems to be a culture in football that insists that players with head injuries should get back onto the field before they are fully recovered. I hope that articles such as these will help educate those in charge in various sports about the dangers of premature return to participation.

An organization in Massachusetts does a lot of advertising aimed at teens and their parents concerning brain injury. (The aforementioned Patrice Bergeron does one of their TV commercials.) If anyone wants more information about the subject it is here.
