EPL Gamblers: So I've followed the EPL for a few years & being a gambler I want to start betting a few games. This week, teams like Man City (bet $100 win $285) vs Chelsea & Aston Villa(+250) v Tottenham seem like good bets. Any advice or for that matter interest in a weekly EPL pick 'em.
The Guardian podcast, Football Weekly, and their daily newsletter (The Fiver) discuss wagers often enough that I've taken to keeping track. They seem to know at least a bit.

Thanks I'll check out the podcast & look for the value bets. I lost on Man City so hopefully AV comes thru.

Hi catfish. Good luck with your wagers. There used to be a good column in the online Guardian (www.guardianunlimited.co.uk/ football) written by someone from Blue Square. But it's not there now.
Basically he used to talk about 'value' bets, which were often the more exotic ones. The simple line on win/draw/loss tended not to produce much value. I don't know if your bookie allows exotics, they certainly don't in Australia, where we are stuck with the basic bets.
He suggested looking for things like teams with no firepower playing each other, then betting on 'no goalscorer'. Apparently if you bet this way, even if it's 1-0 and the goal is an own goal, you still win!
