Holy frijoles! There's a fantasy football draft tomorrow morning?: Snuck up quick. Are we leaving as scheduled? (H2H league)
I'll be drafting from work. Might as well leave it because of the huge # of teams and late notice to change. It'll all be about managing what you end up with.

Crap, I came back too late to sign up for this one.

20 teams and 18 players per team, this is gonna be a long draft. I won't be there either, setting for autodrafto.

Sorry guys, I put up a thread a couple of weeks ago in here, and posted a commissioner's note on the league home page earlier this week. Hey you guys, don't forget, the draft's tomorrow! Hope to see some of you there, and if you can't make it, for the love of God, set your autodraft! Otherwise, when you end up with JaMarcus Russell and Vinny Testaverde as your quarterbacks, don't come crying to me, unless you want to trade LaDainian Tomlinson for Matt Schaub. In that case, I'm happy to help. I'm good like that.

As long as I get Rickey Williams!

You know, I'm half tempted to just sleep in and let auto-draft take over. I'm sure it will do better for me than I did for myself last year.

So how exactly does Yahoo's defensive player rankings work? Why do I get a not available player instead of someone like A.J. Hawk?

No shit. I left the draft once I'd filled my offense, figuring Yahoo would do a better job than I of filling D players. I wound up with people I wouldn't know if they poured a bag of money on me and then took it back.

As near as anybody can tell they don't work. Although the theory was floated that it might be based on who has the nicest hair.

For example, one of my picks is Rich Gardner. Mr. Gardner has 18 career tackles and one interception. He is also nowhere to be found on Seattle's depth chart.

I was googling names on the D list during the draft and about 4 out of every 5 players hadn't even played since 2005 or only played a couple of games in 2006. A couple of rounds I ran out of time and just picked a player. Out of the 5 D players I picked, I'll probably only keep 2.

Yahoo clearly didn't rank the defensive players at all. The number one ranked defensive player was Dan Klecko, who isn't even a starter for Indy's defense. However, he apparently has great hair. Fortunately, there are tons of quality IDP players to choose from, so once dropping and adding starts there will be plenty of players to be had.

Ah. I thought maybe Klecko scored a TD or two on offense and got to the top that way.

Nah, dude, it's the hair. That off-center part drives the ladies wild!

What are we going to do about the roto league? It needs more participants.
posted by bperk at 02:10 PM on August 14, 2007
I'm not sure what to do with the Roto league. We've only got nine participants right now, despite my throwing the doors open to any chowderhead from the general public that wants to participate. From this experience, I've learned one thing: SpoFites don't just like to win, they want the joy of beating you head-to-head, just to see the expression of pain on your face. I knew there was a reason I liked this place so much. So, at this point, the Roto league will consist of nine All-Star teams, and we'll all be scoring a thousand points a week.

So can somebody who was at the draft tell me where the other ten people came from?

So can somebody who was at the draft tell me where the other ten people came from? Out there, somewhere, in the great unwashed. As I said earlier in this thread and others, after watching the Roto league languish with only 8-9 members, I opened it up to the general public. The day before the draft, we had 10 teams. By Saturday morning, we had 19. Go figure. Whoever they are, they don't start slow. We've already had four trades as of yesterday afternoon.

I have to work, so I ranked players for auto-draft. This league will be quite a challenge with 20 teams. I look forward to the season. Good luck all.
