Fantasy Grand Slam: : okay, folks from Down Under, I suck because I failed to get this together before the Aussie Open...however, I'm thinking about a fantasy game for the remaining Grand Slam events. Look within and see what you think.

I think it will work. Two thoughts. First, a Federer discount probably isn't necessary and may overcomplicate things. It isn't really a problem, everyone will just pick Federer for one of their slots. Two, I prefer 5b, you can allow one injury substitution per tournament. Instead of selecting a team of four, you select a team of seven. Four starters, three bench players. If one of your players go down with injury, you can choose one of your bench players as a replacement.

I'd want to play. To keep it simple, I'd remove rules 4 and 5. If one of your guys/gals wins the tournament, that's already a good chunk of points from matches won.

I'm in for whatever structure is agreed to. I think 1 injury replacement is sufficient. That's the ol' luck of the draw.

Okay, that's good feedback. I agree about the Federer Discount, but I do want to allow injury substitutions (tennis players break themselves an awful lot). Incorporating that, I'd amend the proto-rules as follows (take a look at #4, something else occurred to me): 1. Points will be accumulated for play in the singles brackets of the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. 2. Prior to the start of the French Open, you pick a starting team of four men and four women, and an "injury replacement pool" of three men and three women. These will be your players for all three tournaments. 2. Prior to the start of play in the first round of each tournament, you must rank your "starting team". This rank cannot change during the tournament. 3. Following each round, you will be allocated points as follows:

I'll play. I don't know that much about tennis, but its worth a shot.

I'm in, definitely. Do I understand correctly that there is no restriction on injury substitutions beyond limitations of the reserve pool? As many and as often as necessary?

Sousepaw, I'm proposing restrictions as follows (and asking if they seem to make sense): - You can't swap out for a player who's "playing hurt". If one of your starting four is playing with a bum knee, you still have to play 'em. - Injury substitutions are only allowed for starters who withdraw from the tournament because of injury prior to the start of play. You can't do injury substitutions once the tournament has begun. This is because I can't figure out a way to allow that that might not create an unfair advantage (you're partway through the bracket, so you know things that someone who made their picks before the tournament didn't know). - You can substitute for as many injured players as you want (up to three, obviously, if that's what we choose as the injury pool limit), and you can change your pick as many times as you want up to the start of tournament play. Does that make sense? Does it seem like it would work?

LLB, you're third bullet answered my question. I understood the first two points clearly from your previous post. All that sounds perfectly fine to me, and I'm looking forward to it.

I'm in. "Play". And as the 'Folk from Down Under', you don't have to apologise for anything, LBB.

I'm in. It's not like we have anything else to root for in Dallas at the moment anyhow. Arantxa's still playing, right?

Here are my vague unformulated ideas so far: 1. You pick a team of four men and four women. That will be your team for all three tournaments. 2. For each tournament, you rank your players 1-4. 3. Each round that one of your players advances, you get 4 points for your number 1 player, 3 points for your number 2, 2 points for your number 3, and 1 point for your number 4 (or something like that -- the idea is that you would get more points if you guess right about which of your players does best in the tournament. 4. If one of your four players wins the tournament, you get a certain number of bonus points; if it's your #1, you get yet more bonus points. I'm considering a Federer Discount on this one. 5. Injury substitutions: this could be done a lot of ways, but my first thought is: a)if a player is injured during a tournament, too bad. No substitutions for you. b)you are allowed a certain number of substitutions between tournaments in case of injury. There should probably be a limit on this, and one other thought is that you should have to pre-select an "injury replacement pool" at the start of the "season", and you can draw only from that pool. How does that sound? Would it be workable? Does anyone want to play? I'll keep score and all that.
