Spofi EPL fantasy footie: Week 38 update. And that is the end. Congrats to all that participated. But mostly, congrats to me for not bottling it right at the end. Final standings and analysis inside.

I've uploaded some tables with all the pool data (won't even try and put any of the tables into this thread, they are surely too big). It is there is you want to review the season that was.

I want more! Finally in form (thank you Berbatov) Congrats and thanks to gspm, although I'm launching the de facto investigation for whenever a commisioner wins a league. Didn't know shit about EPL prior to the season, totally hooked now. Can't wait until August.

I tried to upload some of this data to the online social data/graphing site Swivel - but it wasn't quite as intuitive as I had hoped. So, I made one plot of the overall rank (by week) of the top five finishers. And that's probably as far as I'd go until they sort it out. I was thinking it'd be easy to slap together a plot, drag and drop and all that. Not so much.

Still pretty cool. It's interesting the top 5 are pretty well divided between the Very Consistent and Manic Depressives.

Who you calling manic depressive? Thanks again gspm for all of the great visual representations of this season. I am looking forward to participating next season; I definitely figured some things out as the season progressed. For the time being I'll bask in the glory of being the highest finisher who is not a subject of the Queen.

If that's some sort of crack about my team name, I'm eating your meds.

bravo, gspm!

I would like to suggest that we break into two divisions next year. Maybe relegate the lower half of the table to the Second Division and we can then promote/relegate at the end of next season. Just a thought. 37 (thirty-seven!?) is a lot of teams. Congrats gspm!

Look, I don't care where I finished. I'm just happy that they don't have the away goals rule in the Championship play offs. Although do I get an award for finishing highest with the smallest squad/fewest transfers? Sort of a 'Best Team Managed by Neglect' Trophy. Great work gspm.

What's the good in two divisions? Besides, since everyone would still pick from the same pool of players it wouldn't be like the real leagues--I assure you that even if there were a Championship fantasy league I wouldn't play in it since we get none of their games on TV and I know even less about the players than those in the EPL. Next year me and Rafa will be holding the league trophies, I'm warning you now!

What's the good in two divisions? I agree with you that the player pools are the same etc. But I think it may be an incentive for managers and make the leagues more exciting. I had a few bad weeks near the beginning of the season where I was too busy to stay involved and my team went into free-fall. I am sure some others may have had similar experiences. At some point you look up the table and say "eh, fuck it." I still played, but knowing I had no chance of winning (AND no chance of relegation) made me wonder why I bothered. (I know why I bothered.... because I signed up and I planned to play even if I had no chance). But I think relegation/promotion are motivating factors. Just my $.02

Divisions just don't work in this situation, and quite frankly, seem unnecessary. Nothing carries over from year to year, there's no money involved and everyone can have the same players. If your pride is that important, pay attention, or just realize this is for fun and next year is not effected by this year. And thank for the tables all season, gspm. I just wish I had stumbled into the locker room before mid-season (and spent a little more time managing my team.)

Well done gspm and thanks for all your hard work. I'm against two divisions and have been ever since it was first suggested about three seasons ago.

If your pride is that important, pay attention, or just realize this is for fun and next year is not effected by this year. Yeah. I had a complete mess of an opening 4 - 8 weeks, but had a blast trying to figure out how to make the whole thing work. I set a target (top half of the table) and when I hit that, set a new, completely unreasonable target (top 10). Texas and I had such a back and forth for the last two months that I turned him into an enemy and worked on beating him. Didn't work, but I did salt his lawn and wish harm upon anyone related to him. Alternatively, you could see how many times you can dribble basketball in an hour.

I have to point out that I had my traditional last month swoon (seeing me drop a few spots in each of the last few years, though, at best previously I'd only been dropping from about 4th). This year, I'd had a lead to work with, alead that looks like it would have been wiped out soon enough. The season was exactly the right length. And I never found out who Spofield Town/James H was.

Yeah, I won't go into the two division thing - I remember the beating I took for advocating it lo those many years ago. Yea, verily, I was beaten. Now, next year, please make sure your SpoFi name is somewhere in your team or manager name -- it ain't that hard. I recommend whoever starts the league to just kick out players until they make their names SpoFi-recognizable. I just want to make sure we know who we're making fun of.

I'm against two divisons too. If you are stuck down the league, amuse yourself with private battles with those around you. You never know, you might surprise yourself with an astonishing week and zip up the table.

Other than the rude "pay attention" dig I am fine with what others have said. It may sound like sour grapes, but I just can't amused myself when I am that far behind. Truly, I would probably feel the same if I was in the top 10. I LOVE the EPL season, but from a fantasy perspective it is just a bit too long. Life gets complicated and then suddenly you are staring up at everyone. In that respect the fantasy league is very much like the real thing. EPL seasons aren't won in the first 10 weeks, but they can easily be lost. I feel the same way about fantasy baseball (too long a season) but I actually follow EPL. *shrug* As I was marking up old locker room interviews from 2003 and saw a table where my EPL fantasy team was #3 in the table. Of course, I think there were 8 of us playing back then!

Does anyone have the list of previous end of season threads?

Other than the rude "pay attention" dig Sorry, but that's the #1 rule of roto sports. I know because I always break it. I didn't take that as snide; it's just how things are.

terrapin! Where are those old interviews? If you've got them all collated somewhere, post the link! Because, erm, I kinda miss them. Plus if you find my roundups from season 1, where StarFooker screwed the pooch on the final gameweek, that would be priceless if you posted them. I don't think he ever recovered from that.

Other than the rude "pay attention" dig That was not a dig. When I said "If your pride is so important..." I meant you in a general sense, not you specifically.

Great tables gspm! Jeez, i leave for a few months and i don't see any soccer stories on the front page! Oh, and i sucked this fantasy season...

Thank you, gspm. Your tables make it all the more interesting and I look forward to August. Now who's going to hand over the ManicDepression Cup?
