EPL Fantasy Premier League.: Results through Week 27.
Oh, yes. Today begins my comeback ...

weekly + avg score was 39.5 + BillSaysThisScores!! hits the top spot for the second time, matches his highest week with a 66. + personal worst weeks: Trox Untitled, Spacemen United overall + This is 12 weeks at the top of the table for Ardley Athletic. + in a weird quirk it seems as though some player (common between BillSaysThisScores!!, Cutters III, Texas/NY Devils FC, orangemen and Trox Untitled - I think it was McBride) received 3 more points in week 23 than had been reported by the time of the lockerroom update (suggesting that his score was changed after the bonus points had been added). I noticed it because the difference between total scores and the sum of the week scores is always a multiple of 4 yet in that week it was listed as -3 for those teams. So you all did 3 pts better in week 23, in retrospect. + trending up: Crap City United (5 spots in 4 weeks), Phlan Phlingers (2 spots in 2 weeks), Texas/NY Devils FC (4 spots in two weeks... but that had followed a slide of 6 spots over five weeks) + going down: Trox Untitled (5 spots in three weeks) form guide Ardley Athletic: 60.3 Cutters III: 60.0 Crap City United: 59.3

My lead at the top of the table has been cut. Me no likey. Nor do I likey an injury to MGP and a suspension for badboy Joey Barton. I haven't a clue how I'm going to address these issues though.

Barton's two fouls were flagrant. And I almost fell out of my seat when Crouch nearly heel-flicked a cross to the far post.

I'm not suggesting Barton's sending-off wasn't fully justified garfy. In fact he might have been straight red-carded for either challenge. However, it does leave me with a bit of a poser on the transfer front. Logically, I have to get rid of Barton because even when he's served his one-match suspension he is only one yellow card off another two match suspension (for accruing 10 yellows over the course of the season). And we all know Joey can't go long without a booking. However, MGP is supposedly out for at least two weeks with his hamstring injury. Decisions, decisions.

squealy, my apologies. I didn't intend to sound accusatory. I was just surprised at how Barton shrugged off the yellows, as if they weren't dangerous challenges. It seemed to be he purposefully got his studs in play on each. Honestly who reaches for the ball with their heel? You are in a bit of a pickle, though. Personally, I'd go with logic, depending on your bench depth. Utter randomness would be my second option.

And now Lampard is out for England?

MGP's injured? Man! But thanks for the tip, squealy!

That was nasty for MGP, he scores the only goal of the match but slides so hard he pulls his jock! Talk about mixing pleasure and pain. And MrKaka2002, 110 points buddy, 100 points. I'm coming after you. ;)

Note I said MGP is "supposedly injured" wikiwikiworldworldcup. This comes from his manager, so it could well be a bare-faced lie to get him out of the international friendlies this week. Lampard definitely out of the England friendly tonight and according to Sky Sports News this morning not even definite to face Barca next week. So I have MGP and Lamps supposedly injured and Joey Terminator Barton suspended. It's the curse of the twanging hamstrings and the lunatic scousers. Thank the Lord for my subs. Get out there boys and fill yer boots.

Looks like I'll remain untitled for yet another yet. Talk about wilting form.

+ trending up:...Texas/NY Devils FC (4 spots in two weeks... but that had followed a slide of 6 spots over five weeks) Yes, we are the model of inconsistency. Several weeks back I started the trading down of several players to afford Henry and was dropping places like crazy. I finally decided to quit the chase for now and rebuild the midfield and it's paying off. This round should be interesting for all of us with key players injured or suspended.

Blackburn Rovers website reports MGP injury not as serious as it first seemed. Though manager Mark Hughes seems to think he'll miss out on Saturday, which is hardly a Nostradamusesque prediction of the future as they don't play until the Sunday. In other news, snow and freezing temperatures predicted across the country tonight. Who knows, some games may even have to be postponed. Ah the joys of being an FFL manager.

Yeah, this weekend is shaping up to be a humdinger, with a bunch of high-profile benchwarmers ... if the games even get played at all. I set Mark Hughes as my captain. He's brilliant.

Bloody Wigan. How did Chimbonda score the own goal? Holy crap.
posted by worldcup2002 at 03:59 PM on March 06, 2006
Wigan should have won that game. I strongly dislike the word "deserved" when it comes to results; either you get the job done or you don't. Wigan were awfully unlucky today but against a team like United, you have to put away your chances and in the end, they didn't. Of course putting one into your own net in injury time never helps.

I know numbers don't tell the whole story - but what is the deal with RVN getting frozen out at ManU? I checked and he is their leading scorer (in the premiership) by a long margin - 19 goals to Rooney's 10 - and has two more than the next best, Henry at 17. You'd think, as a manager, you'd want to put the league's leading scoring in you lineup? at least early enough so he gets full appearance points. /grumbling RVN owner who had him as captain and grew tired of this week's jibba jabba about his place on the team. // though maybe I shouldn't be quick to lament - beyond my keeper his 4 pts were the highest of any of my players this week so the captaincy was not wasted.

I know numbers don't tell the whole story - but what is the deal with RVN getting frozen out at ManU? Saha had a really good run in the Carling Cup and I think Ferguson was right to stick with him for the final. Apparently Ruud strained a stomach muscle and didn't play for Holland in last week's friendly and Ferguson must not have wanted to risk him for a full game against Wigan. Of course, all this is just heresay from the press and you have to take it with a grain of salt. And can I just say how pissed off I am that ESPN are showing this week's Champions League games on a 10-hour delay? All this to make room for the U.S. playing in this charade of a World Baseball Championship. Doesn't ESPN have enough fucking channels to not bump Barcelona-Chelsea and Arsenal-Real Madrid? Bastards. Fucking bastards.

Making Henry was my only good move this gameweek. Man.

You made Henry? Respect is due.

My god. Can't even type. I meant "making Henry captain." Just add that to my string of errors this week.

Hell, those Bristol fucks aren't even showing a Liverpool match this round. RVN: I think SAF needs to throw LS a few CRUMBs, they don't have anyone ready to step in if he leaves in the summer. Unless Alan Smith switches back but I don't recall him being the same kind of target man. Or will OGS finally return from injury after injury and make LS redundant? maybe not.
posted by billsaysthis at 06:51 PM on March 07, 2006
Looking at the 3 goals Saha has for ManU this year (EPL season only) you could plug in OGS in his spot and almost make up that gap. I dunno, some of these glitzy teams (Chelsea, ManU, Real Madrid) seem to attract flourishing talent into their orbits where it ends up being a shadow of what it was on a weaker team (SWP, Saha) due to being down the pecking order. Fantasy crapshoots. Well, there are always injuries in the mix too I suppose.

some of these glitzy teams (Chelsea, ManU, Real Madrid) All three of whom didn't make the CL final eight. I wonder how high Abromovitch's scream will be if the only silverware he gets this season is the EPL (that is, if they don't also get the FA Cup).
