Come on guys. This is a serious topic. Was it really neccessary to piss on it?

To be fair, JJ nailed the topic on the nose. I don't see how any discussion would be possible after that. Perhaps if some one asked why it is the Brits report after the A samples without waiting for B? Just a thought.

In other words, in the face of the derail, pose another question on topic. you'd be surprised at the results.

Sometimes folks don't have anything to contribute on topic Perhaps they should wait for a thread that they wish to comment upon to happen along then, or start one. Not that I mind overmuch, just sharing a thought.

Fair assessment.

lilnemo: It's quite simple. If you don't have anything useful to contribute to the thread then...don't.

And if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. (Thanks mum). ;-)

lilnemo, I thought it was a good question. salmacis, sorry for getting off topic, but JJ and Weedy nailed it, and then he crushed my image of the McShake.

I think the interesting thing is the conversation, not whether it stays on topic. A good link starts a discussion but doesn't have to be the only thing said. And, salmacis, I am the final arbiter of all things so WTF.

Agreed. That thread would have completely died out if people hadn't brought it in a new direction. It wasn't sports-related, but it was better than empty space. I'm worried about this new trend in calling people out for stuff here. The locker room isn't supposed to be for etiquette issues. Please don't let this become commonplace. I understand your frustration, salmacis, but we all recognize most of the people who have posted more than 50 times or so, and personally I can't think of a regular poster who hasn't made me think or laugh at least once, sometimes when swerving wildly off-course. They're not all going to be home-runs. Let's all be cool with that and move on to the next post. Group hug! *surreptitiously squeezes mbd1's butt*

Is "surrepititiously squeezes butt" going to be Sportsfilter's first phrase? Or do we have others?

Correct -- we deleted the Etiquette category to discourage that kind of discussion here in the locker room. If you have a complaint about a specific member's behavior, send us an e-mail. As much as possible, we'd like to avoid the locker room becoming the 24-hour-a-day brawl that MetaTalk has become.

Good lord! The rod up that man's butt must have a rod up it's butt.

I assume you mean this thread. Derails happen. Sorry for my part. But as we all know, all it takes is one funny sounding word, or in this case turn of phrase to take the thread in another direction. I wouldn't lament a derailed thread though. More often than not derailed threads lead to some pretty interesting conversations. Sometimes folks don't have anything to contribute on topic. Same shit different thread.
