With the concerns that were voiced in this thread, plus the continued personality conflicts in the baseball league, a new NFL Fantasy Football league seems like a good idea. I set up a new league, but this is my first playing, and I’ll be traveling most of September, so I don’t think I’d be a good choice for commissioner. Anybody want to step up?

I'd emailed jbou a while back to encourage him to transfer the commissioner position to someone else, but he declined. It sucks to start over (I've already made numerous transactions), but it would suck worse to have conflicts like those occuring in the baseball league.

Is there really a need for a new league? I wouldn't mind giving jbou another try. Plus, do not forget, there is a no trade rule (I forget the exact wordage) for certain players through out the season. I say put whatever happened in baseball aside and start fresh.

arguments are funny when you're not involved.

I don't want to join a new leauge, i'm will to give this football one a go. There aren't as many trades in football as there is in baseball leagues, so I don't think it will be that much of an issue, and even if there are trades, it's hard to access how even they are, which is why there aren't a lot of football stat geeks writing books. The can't trade list does help as well.

I offered to take control of the league when jbou was going to step down, and then he never did it. I just plan to play, not trade with jbou and win the whole motherfucking thing.

Wait - that was my plan! From the looks of things there really isn't a whole lot the commish to do in this football league now that it's under way. Let's see how this goes and if he screws up we sic Starfucker on him. Is that Jerseygirl?

who the "jeresy" he refers to as childish and immature? Yeah that's me. Such a lucky girl. I don't blame you guys for sticking with it now that you've spent the time doing the draft though. Hope you football fellas like autocratic regimes!

can't trade list? there's a can't cut list, but where's the can't trade list? perhaps we should lay ground rules now for the circumstances in which the commish can veto a trade. unilateral action on jbou's part (which is apparently what happened in baseball) seems unacceptable. perhaps allowing the coaches to vote by posting comments in the lockerroom or on the yahoo league msg board is the way to go? it's a 14 team league, so mebbe if there are 6 objections in 24 hours, that would authorize the commmish to veto?

I don't know if this would be helpful, but the way we deal with trades in my fantasy football league (albeit with 12 people who were all friends in college) is that the commissioner (myself in football) has a. have ready access to email/Internet all the time and b. some degree of judgment. When a trade comes in, the commissioner then decides if its a trade that reasonable parties could not possibly see as unfair and then automatically approve it or if there is some possibility of unfairness (trades involing top Tier 1 players, seemingly unbalanced deals, trades late in the season involving non-contenders, etc.) then the trade is sent for final decision to a randomly selected trade committee (of people who a. have ready access to email & good record for responses; b. are interested in being on such a committee; c. are not involved in the deal) of either 3 or 5 people (depending on potential controversey of the deal) and the whatever the majority says, the league adopts as its trade decision. Also, when the trade first goes to committee, the owners involved are allowed to send their reasons for the trade and discuss who initiated it and other important factors. I don't know if this would help, but last year it ran completely smooth with no major disputes or problems (last year was first year new policy was put in place after prior controversey).

that's an interesting way to handle things. haven't heard that one. i like it though. it's often impossible to get the whole league to consider things seriously within a short amount of time.
