Probably not the name he really used. "Johnny Covert" is the slang term used in the FBI for undercover agents. Or so I've heard; it could be a total rumor.

This is a perfect example of why the Boston Herald's sports section will never be as good as the Globe's. About twice a year they break out pieces like this: well-written, researched, deep and interesting. Twice a year the Herald prints a readable game story.
