Posh Spice blocks Peterborough United's attempt to trademark "Posh" and "The Posh".: Victoria Beckham, wife of the David, Posh Spice of the Spice Girls, and latest target of a foiled kidnapping is back in the limelight, as she battles the efforts of Second Division team, Peterborough United to trademark nicknames that they've used since the 1920s.

they should've trademarked them in the 20s, then. My guess is that Victoria Beckham is a lot more recognizable as "Posh" then these ball kickers.

People weren't that obsessed with money in the 20's which is why trademarking something as ridiculous as this would have seemed......well, ridiculous.

It's all about the licensing deals, i.e., the money, my friends. Funnily enough, both The Posh and Posh Spice make money from books, clothing and other crap that are imprinted with their "brands".

The end of the first article mentions that Peterborough United is for sale. Maybe she should just buy them.

I think they're going for UK 1.5 million. That's Posh pocket change.

I'm just surprised that she hasn't complained about Tottenham attempting to trademark their own nickname, the 'Talentless Fuckwits'.

I think the board of the FA already have 'Talentless Fuckwits' already trademarked, etagloh ;-) Well, either them, or the ITV commentary team.

In 10 years' time, nobody will remember Victoria Beckham. Peterborough United will still be in the lower divisions of the football league. I'm with the ITV commentary team as "talentless fuckwits". Especially Andy Townsend.

I haven't read the article...but is it true that Peterborough have used these nicknames? Even if they didn't, what is the problem if they WANTED to? And another thing, if they didn't, why would they WANT to?
