If I was Culpepper, I would be dying to leave a club that going nowwhere also. Culpepper is a big reason they were going nowhere. His salary doesnt match his lack of ability. B. Johnson is a much better QUARTERBACK for Minnesota's offense. He is also a much better leader. His success while Culpepper was down only proves it. Culpepper will sign with Oaktown and the Raiders will finally fall off the face of the earth.

I would like to apologize to everyone for turning this into a circus with my sharp smart ass remarks. I let my hatred for the man get the best of me and acted like a child during the discussion. My apologies again to all of you. (Even you..Bullpenpro and Jerseygirl). I would like to make a sincere apology to Franky for the threatening response. I am old school and reacted inappropriately to nasty name calling. My apologies again to all of you....

PR MOVE.... Why publicize it. Why not keep it as a simple reward to kid for his loyalty to his team and his school. Why involve the press. Answer: Good PR. Proof: You forgetting how he is ruining the sport and defending him for something that could have been done away from the public eye or ear. PR MOVE....

You are still a sucker for defending him. I'm sure George can pull $1000 out of his right pocket. For the record, my quote explains that he should have matched the donation and gave another $1000 to the SCHOOL DISTRICT. He did'nt. This isnt a feel good story. It's a PR trick. My reason for believing this....it was publicized.
posted by vbgjr88 at 07:39 AM on February 14, 2006
Not surprised. George pays good money to his PR guys. Stories like this aren't meant to stay confidential. They're meant to sell tickets and papers. If wealthy George really wanted to reward this kid, he should match the 1000 to the school district. All of you who are saluting him for this are suckers......

Don't hate Shaq because he's big. He is the most dominant presence in the nba. Ben Wallace is the glue that holds that team together. Z is good but not better than either of these two monsters. Z is a role player.

Ray Allen is my favorite player in the league and I am a Warriors fan. However, I think C. Paul should be there instead. His team is winning and he is the major reason.

I think the allstar game is about who is having a better year not who you would take for your team. Paul Pierce is the man but Arenas is having a much better year and so is his team. As a matter of fact, Arenas hit the shot that beat Boston.

Much respect to Paul Pierce but he should be out and Arenas should be in.

I agree with Bill Lumbergh 100%. So often today the attention is given to the athletes who make fools of themselves and act like they have had no home training whatsoever. It's great to hear that someone actually lives a good life on and off the field. Certainly one of the least appreciated players in the NFL. He didnt even make the pro bowl this year. He catches a TD every game. That's alot to say for a WR on a running team. He's not using this time to promote himself. He's paying homage to the bus. Class Act.....

I don't believe he overreacted. He's protecting his family. However, he should have been smarter about where he seated them. I know he played in Chicago and his family may feel comfortable there but he is an opposing player now. A veteran player has to make better decisions....especially when his wife has a big mouth.

You would have been making the same comments about TO 7 years ago. Take a moment to listen to Steve Smith on the sidelines and remember back to when TO used to motivate himself by talking about himself and how people "hate to love me". Steve Smith has the same mentality.
posted by vbgjr88 at 12:31 PM on January 16, 2006
Much respect to Steve Smith. He is one hell of an athlete and the biggest threat at the position since T.O. However just like the "Catch 2" against Green Bay was the birth of T.O the asshole, this year will be the birth of another amazing talent whose mouth will overshadow his incredible play. Mark my words. He hasn't done anything to show this kind of behavior yet but neither did T.O. until that game.

Why would they take a step backward with VY. It's obvious that he is going to take a while to mature into a decent pro level QB. Look how long it's taking Carr and he was more developed as a QB when he came out than VY is now. Drafting VY will only make for frustrated fans. Take Bush........ Davis sucks.

The Texans should entertain trade offers. If they can get anything for the pick they should and take White with a later pick. Of the two, he is more ready for the pro game.

I'd like to see Reed in too but the fact that he was an AFC reciever in the 80's hurts.

Roger Craig should be in for being the first 1000/1000 guy and for being the prototype back for the west coast offense which every team is now running. If it weren't for "the fumble" he'd certainly get more consideration.
posted by vbgjr88 at 03:00 PM on January 11, 2006
Reed is not in yet and shouldnt be anytime soon. I understand the case for Carson but it helps when all other blockers are on LT. However, he should be there eventually. Monk has waited long enough. I would understand Madden going in. Maybe not so much for what he did as a coach but because he is one of the most identified personalities of the league.

Aikman, Moon, White, Thomas and Monk. Everybody else should wait.

Walls would have been off the hook if weren't for Eric Wright's game saving tackle on Drew Pearson. I thought Pearson off to the endzone. Thank god for Eric Wright. Being a Niner fan, the only bitter taste I carry with me is the lost to the Redskins in the 83 Championship game. The refs were picking on Lott that day. I'll never be able to let that one go...

If you believe that we don't have the right to take ownership of our teams than teams shouldn't be able to represent or be represented by a city. That's the same type of idea that too many of todays athletes have. They are representing a city and the fans of that city as well as fans of the NFL. Fans invest too much of their lives into the support of their favorite teams to just be considered nothing more that viewers. If there were no fans in the seats or watching, there would be no revenue...to team...no league.

You are complaining about non calls when they were playing in Cincinnati?!?! Come on..Have a little bit more respect for Bengals fans and don't whine for them. Officiating wasn't the reason they lost.

Philly has a long way to go to get back into it. The Bengals are just the latest to realize that titles are one with defense and by winning in the trenches. Finesse teams won't cut it. Nice to see teams like Pittsburgh and Chicago playing football the way it should be played.
posted by vbgjr88 at 01:14 PM on January 09, 2006
The Bengals had a year to be proud of. A couple of more years like this in and you all will have a franchise to be proud of. As of now, you are just chokes. To all of "if Carson were playing" winers....YOU WERE WINNING! Blame your defense. If chad Johnson hadn't have done so much celebrating and trash talking, maybe there would be more sympathy for your situation. Now he'll be at home watching the Super Bowl on his black and white TV. The wheels on the bus go round and round.....

No offense to TP but if he and Vashar are the only other two defensive players coming up in this conversation, it's obvious why Urlacker was the landslide victor. TP may win it next year. For your information Hater 187, he was too busy messing around with Paris Hilton to win it in the past. Women weaken legs.

Exactly...Throwing at the pro level isnt something just can just be easliy taught. He also has bad footwork and a huge problem checking down. I dont see him running past or over pro level linemen, backers or even DBs. He can be a great player some day if the proper approach is taken toward his development.

VY is a raw talent. As exciting as his perfomance has been, there alot of mechanical flaws to his game that will be exposed at the next level. Teams that are in the hunt win with a pocket passer (Manning, Brady, Palmer). One more year would do him well. Leinert is still a better pick for any of the teams picking early in the draft. Bush goes to Houston. Leinert goes to New Orleans. If VY comes out, he'll end up in Tennessee or Oakland. I see him riding the pine for while (ala McNair).

How would a rookie runningback keep Alex Smith from getting killed. That's been Barlows problem since day one (picking up the blitz) SF should pick up Mario Williams if available. Defense wins chapionships. Besides, Gore and Hicks are a good set of backs. They just need seasoning and the line to gain some experience.

Being a niner fan, it hurts to say this but I'm sure Alexander had a great time seeing SF, St. L, Ariz twice. When the competition is lacking, it's easier to stack up numbers.

I think that it's been proven that the formula to success in New England is not so much the players but the system. To all of you Pats fans who are mad at my comments, please understand that I agree that he had a great year but he was on a better team/system. To all the Peyton lovers out there...He didnt even deserve to be the MVP on his own team. Edge should be. Stats aren't everything.
posted by vbgjr88 at 02:21 PM on January 05, 2006
I agree with all of your comments about Brady. He played well for his team while the team suffered through alot of adversity. However, NYG would have lost alot of games if it weren't for Tiki. New England would have just won a few more if they had everybody healthy. In response to your side note...watch out for Pittsburgh. The bus is heating up.
posted by vbgjr88 at 02:13 PM on January 05, 2006
The MVP should go to the player that is most valuable to his team. This player should be the player that the team can't win without. With this explanation in mind, the MVP should go to Tiki. Alexander had Hasselback (very underated), Palmer had the Johnsons and Brady has a championship team to work with. Enough said.

Vikings not passing up Culpepper trade
I see alot of people saying Culpepper's washed up after one bad year?! Look at the guy's 04' stats! MAYBE he'll have a tough time coming back from the knee injury but he has a huge upside. He has a bigger downside. His salary, his decision making and his attitude.
