"He should be a team player 100 per cent."

Definitely seems to be more to this story that is being left out. But, if it's in his job description/contract that he must represent the team and participate in public service/signing events then I would think it's in the rights of the team to terminate him for not signing the flag. Whether or not it's a political statement being made, he still can be fired for not doing his job.

Red Sox brass meeting with Matsuzaka's agent

According to AP, Mastsuzaka took off in John Henry's jet this morning headed to Boston. Signs they have reached an agreement? Sounds like it.

Yanks talk with Tigers about Sheffield

One worry about Humberto Sanchez is his durability. In his relatively young minor league career he has already had extended injuries (elbow, oblique, groin). But even so, he does become one of the Yankees top prospects immediately.

Wily Mo Pena traded to BoSox for Bronson Arroyo, Cash

Doesn't fit in with the whole "Money Ball" approach, but they now do have someone to fill in for Nixon during the inevitable DL stints. I think I would have liked to see the Sox deal Clement though.

The Boss has a heart!

I still hate George, but yes he does have a heart. I think he is a regularly calls in on the WEEI Jimmy Fund drive each year and makes a nice donation.

Sox ship Renteria to Braves

Does anybody know the details of the trade. Did the sox have to pick up part of Renteria's contract?

ESPN is reporting the Sox are paying 8 Million of the remaining contract and also the 3 Million buyout if the Braves do not pick up the option at the end of the contract.

Arlen Specter takes T.O.'s side

We should have predicted this happening. Congress succeeds in forcing MLB to adopt a stricter drug testing program and now they will look at butting into the NFL's dirty laundry.

This place was alive, and so are the Yankees

Anyone else notice the lack of "fire" in the weekend series? Yes, the rivalry is still there but it no longer feels like the biggest rivalry is sports (as FOX loved to point out ALL last season and post-season). No more "1918" chants, no "who's your daddy?" chants, no pictures of the Babe on signs across Yankee Stadium. After the choke last season and Yankees fighting for a playoff spot this season it's a lot more tame in the Stadium. I'm not complaining, though... it was still some damn good baseball to watch.

OJ unplugged by 18 year old.

This kid should have been on the OJ trial jury back in 95 when he was 8! Surely could have done a better job than that jury did.
