With Larussa running the club this is pretty much over. All depends on the pitching. Their defense has been spotless. With three extra runs to work with looks like Cards to me. On another note I wish the Foxtards would quit saying "suicide" squeeze. Yes it was a squeeze, No it wasn't a suicide squeeze. The bases weren't loaded.

Player of the game, Johny Damon. Series MVP: Ortiz Most dramatic performance of the series: Schilling game 6

Every pitcher is available except for Schilling. 6 is not many, but I like the chances for now.

"that many" was not supposed to be itals. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

With that out of the way - how many runs do you Sox fans want to be up by to feel comfortable? that many!!!!

Lowe is pitching much better than Brown, Sox could pad this quick.

walk, good idea. Hard to watch this.

So what if Rodriguez is out, the run still scores, don't it? One out, that's the number of fingers you need to pick your nose, you dummies. No interference he gets maybe one base. Kind of a judgement call by the umps where he ends up.

Hey kudos to the umps!!! Now I hope Timlin has been throwing all this time.

Oh boy can they really goof things up.

Crap! And Myers is the only one up in the pen.
posted by oicnub4 at 10:25 PM on October 19, 2004
Obviously you leave Schilling for the "one on your pulled" scenario. Arroy had a pretty good performance last night. Get Timlin up and have Folke ready. Not a bad position to have.

Schilling looked much better in the fifth. *sigh of releif* He usually gets stronger in the later innings, so if the ankle allows this will be a very good game.

Schilling got out of the fourth. Limping too. How much longer will he be effective and does he get releived at the right time, which is very soon.

Otiz is trying to get series mvp!!

Good point. Why only use Myers for one batter? Hope I can find this on the radio, I have to gopick my son up from work. Sox half of the inning now. Fox just did the most stupid highlight clip I have ever seen. 27 runs in 27 seconds. I wish I had a 100th of the $$$ fox has wasted trying to make this an enjoyable telecast. They are failing miserably.

Sox don't score. Umps blow the game. This is gonna be like sudden death. Whoever scores the next run, likely wins. Should Arroyo have been pulled?

Now that call is even bigger. If Ortiz had gotten on he would be at third. New reliever, Quantrill. Interesting
posted by oicnub4 at 08:27 PM on October 18, 2004
It's unfortunate how a call can ruin a good game. That was a clear check swing not a cross the plate swing. He11 McCarver even got it right.

No way did Ortiz swing!!!!!

GBA in the 7th can go. It should have stayed in New York and only for that year, 2001. The commercials are getting ridiculous. With all the revenue generated we should have better commentators for the games. Yea Heredia!!! Go sox.

That reminded me a little of the yanks game with the twins when jeter tagged jones "out" and was a foot from him. This was a lot closer but was he safe or out?
posted by oicnub4 at 08:04 PM on October 18, 2004
ok it's official jeter has "stamped" the game. Called that one.

Cabrera gets my vote for best slide into second. That was what, a crosscheck? unfortunately for the sox it didn't break up the dbl play and a great opp. has been missed.

7th stretch and that really looked like a bad lip-synch to me.

I wonder if Schilling could come out of the bullpen? Not sure of the status of his ankle but hey, it's do or die and the sox pen isn't very deep/rested after last night especially.

OK so how many batters does Mussina brushback/hit in the bottom half. Hmm. . . If Pedro comes back in the seventh and walks one guy he better get replaced, if he even comes out for the seventh. Do ya suppose Jeter has put his "stamp of approval" on this series now?
posted by oicnub4 at 06:26 PM on October 18, 2004
If Cabrerra(sp*) had stolen second after Posada got popped on the throwing hand by Ramirez's foul ball, Jeter doesn't get the force at second and the inning isn't over yet. I see that as a mistake in baserunning/management.

After the jabber back and forth about McCarver's "Trinidad Hubbard" quote, It almost seems like the other two idiots want McCarver to shut up too! At present we're trying to sell shoes cause the game is going slow. Damon strike's out again. Not a good series for him, too bad, He's a much better player. What a time for a slump.

Question on that play where Williams got thrown out at third: is it okay for Mueller to completely block the bag like that? It looked like he was kneeling and had his leg across the bag so that there was no way a sliding runner could possibly get there. Is this legit? Is this not legit? Is this asking for a really good bone-deep spiking? If the defensive player is making a play with the ball coming (IE: throw from where ever), yes. You are allowed to block the base. And yes you can get spiked pretty bad.

No kidding? Um.... you're not related to McCarver or Morgan are you? Sorry if that was taken as a flame not intended to be. If the Yanks start Brown the Sox can DEFINATELY have an easier time of it. I haven't followed baseball too much this year. But, if he pitches like the pitcher he used to be it will be an up hill battle, (it already is at 0 - 2). I don't think the Sox will lose though because at 3 - 0 the Yanks will definately win it before a game 7. A seven game series generates way more revenue than a shorter series and unfortunarely this is about money.

So with the "Star Wars" theme, and the NY crowds' "Who's your daddy . . . " Do we finally find out that "Pedro"(Luke) has a Daddy, and do we get to hear the Bostonians, "NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. . ." As they drop into the deep pit of 0-2. I hope they don't.

Better late than never.
I stand corrected, hmm. Terms must have changed since I played the game in the early '80s or I learned them wrong in the first place. My understanding of squeeze plays were as follows: Safety squeeze - batter bunts, runner gets large lead and breaks for home with throw to first. Squeeze - Runner breaks for home on pitch batter bunts. Suicide squeeze - Bases loaded, all runners break on the pitch and the batter bunts. Of course I learned all of this from my coaches (they seemed pretty good) and from reading various reference material of the day. I study/follow the game(baseball) quite a bit (1976-present) and have just recently joined spofi. My apologies (in this instance) for the " Foxtard " comment.
