Manchester City qualify for UEFA Cup based on good behavior.: They almost lost the spot to Fulham, who barely escaped relegation from the EPL. "The fair play system awards points based on criteria including respect for opponents and the referee, positive play as well as the number of yellow and red cards received. City will not be able to host the first qualifying round tie at Eastlands as the pitch is due to be relaid once a Bon Jovi concert has taken place on 22 June."

It's not like it's a tournament that anyone gives a shit about though.

And it's not like they'll progress very far anyway.

So this is kind of like saying let the slow kids get in for good behavior, because, erm, it's kind of a slow kids tournament and the slow kids aren't gonna get that far. I see your circular reasoning and raise you a tautology.

I remember a Wimbledon fan who followed the Dons when they made the Inter Toto a few years ago. He said it was fantastic - to see his team in Europe was beyond his wildest expectations, and travelling around to various continental cities in late summer/early autumn was good fun. With the Big Four (TM) monopolising the ECL positions every year, I for one think Euro Vase is a great competition. The last few months have been pretty disappointing for Citeh fans, so this will cheer them up.

As a City fan, I'm excited that we'll be going to Europe, even on a technicality in the lesser tournament. Look out, Faeroe Islands!

Fair Play Award is all well and good. Give 'em a plastic medal and a pat on the back from the Queen. But qualification for a tournament? Not so much.
