Italian to lead the Irish.: Don Giovanni Trappatoni (late of Juventus, AC and Inter Milan, and now the mighty Red Bulls Salzburg) will become Ireland manager in May. With Don Fabio in charge of England, when will the other Home Countries get on the bandini wagon?

Does Ireland count as a home country?

Re: this, I highly recommend Barry Glendenning's Fiver column.

"And bad news for tikka-tinged troubadour El Tel and the Republic of O'Ireland players, but good news for Rep of O'Ireland football fans: former Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni has agreed to take the Ireland job."
Sounds like this is a better choice than a native son. Imperialism lives!

The reaction here so far is mostly positive. There are a few comments being made regarding the fact that business man Denis O'Brien will be paying half of Trappatoni's salary. I'm in a positive frame of mind at the moment, so I say yay!

It's an interesting choice. Let's hope he has more luck with referees and linesmen than he did with the Italian national side.
