I remember doing a school chemistry project on chromatography. Through a family interest in a local bookmaking concern (my weekend job was a price assessor at the track), I got to visit the swab analysis labs at the Australian Jockey Club in Randwick. My teacher knew about my job, and because of the inside knowledge displayed in the assignment, thought I'd been fixing horse races.
