With one shot, Iraq conquer Saudi Arabia and Asia.: With a strikeforce consisting of a Kurd, a Sunni and a Shiite, Iraq secured their first Asia Cup championship with a 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia. The winning goal was scored by captain Younes Mahmoud. Iraqis the world over celebrate this triumph and national unity in the face of continued violence.

After all the horrors visited by Uday Hussein, togehter with the chaos brought on by three wars in two decades, I'm amazed that they manage to field a national squad at all. And now this. Hats off to Iraq for what would be a great result under any circumstances, but that also shows an unmatched degree of persistence and heart.

This is awesome and is a great accomplishment for them and also good for the rest of the world to see!! This is definitely a sign of progress because under the old regime those players were likely to be shunned or worse for disgracing their country if they had not won! This team hopefully is a microcosm of what their society can accomplish if they continue to stick together and have faith :-)

Plus one for them, but a big minus 5000 for the shooting guns in the air celebrations. How many Iraqis were injured or killed by the bullets?

I think there was one guy who had to be shot and killed by Iraqi police. Before he rammed his carload of explosives into a crowd.
