A tour too far: With the rugby world cup on later this year there is plenty of development work and plenty of experimenting going on. But as second string Northern Hempisphere teams tour the Southern hempisphere, some are wondering what the point is.
The point is to show how useless John Connolly is as an international coach.

Well that gives a point to the Welsh tour, but not to the French one.

And I've just been emailed a link to Belgium's rugby site as they have announced a world cup warm-up against Argentina on 25th August. "Argentina will play a "Belgian Barbarian" side (backbone of Belgian internationals, plus a few french & british players) as a World Cup warm-up in Brussels' Stade Roi Baudouin (aka Heysel) on Saturday 25 August." and if you are in Belgium sure you might go along, it is expected to be free. (here ends the promo) As for the touring, well there is and there isn't a point. This is the end of the season up here, so it stands to reason that players will need their rest, no point in picking up more injuries before the RWC. But why not try out some alternatives. I didn't see most of the games, although I did watch our (Ireland's) performance against the Pumas, and it while it wasn't fantastic rugby, it was entertaining and gave players down the pecking order a chance to shine. The likes of Duffy doing well I thought. France's fourth-string team seems to be pushing it a little though, but what else could they do?
