Braying Bucketheads Blindly Bid for Best Banknote: - A commemorative £5 note featuring the soccer legend George Best is to be issued at the end of this month by the Ulster Bank in Northern Ireland. Some people are buying them on eBay [at time of posting, there was one about to be sold for more than £50], while anyone with any sense is buying one through the bank for the face value.

Just for clarity's sake, you can put anyone you want on a note in NI, right? My sister lives in Belfast and her bank's notes are all members of the bank president's family.

If someone of Best's notorious alcohol abuse can get a five quid note, I would think we won't have to wait too long for the Oliver Reed fifty quid note!

Didn't this exact same thing happen in Scotland with Jack Nicklaus?

Didn't this exact same thing happen in Scotland with Jack Nicklaus? It did - and you can still bid for one if you want to. All the Northern Irish banks can print their own money, Yerfatma. This comes in particularly handy when you get robbed - all you have to do is reprint in a different colour and make the currency that was stolen more or less worthless.

Kind of takes the fun out of gangster pics. My parents were visiting during that incident and were sure they'd be stopped at customs. Y'know, my sister was working at a gallery in Boston next door when this occurred as well. Maybe I should stop teasing her.

I'm selling $1 bills with pictures of George Washington on them for the low price of $10. Act now, supplies are limited.

I'm selling ultra rare commeritive copper (looking) coins featuring the grand visage of Lincoln for $25 each. They are a collectors item.
