Farrell Transfer Has England Out of Position: Blog entry on the problems arising out of Andy Farrell's transfer from Rugby League to Rugby Union.

Interesting stuff. I think backs have it much easier when transferring codes, given the positional and tactical similarities once clear of the ruck. The only successful forwards swapping codes that come to mind would be Ray Price(1970s), Scott Gourlay (1980-90s) - both Australian - and lately Brad Thorn (NZ) who has now gone back the other way. Notably, all three were loose forwards.

I'd agree, rugby union forwards play a totally different game to league forwards, but backs have less to adapt to. Though it is still a very different game. I also thought it was interesting to note that although the RFU paid a considerable amount for Farrell they have no real say in his career. Very different to the set-up here in Ireland
