SOUTH postponed by a year.: SpoFi is the sponsor of Mile 27 of Ben Saunders's planned expedition to walk to the South Pole and back. I received an email this weekend (as the one who put up the money for the sponsorship) from Ben informing us that his expedition would be postponed for a year. Full email inside. (btw, Ben is also a Spofite.)

Thanks for the news and such, wc02, but shouldn't this be in the Locker Room?

Yeah, on review, it would probably have been better placed in the LR. Mea culpa.

Email from Ben (posted with his permission): Hi everyone, First up, my apologies for the mass email, and for the recent radio silence. It's been a crazy few months and I thought it was high time I gave you a progress report. Tony and I have just taken the tough decision to postpone SOUTH by a year, largely due to difficulties with sponsors working on such a short timeframe, but also to give us time to focus on filming for a forthcoming Discovery Channel TV special on the expedition and to build on our partnerships with Yahoo! (SOUTH's online media partner) and with schools in the UK and US. I want to say a HUGE thank you for your support and generosity, and hope you'll understand that we can't afford to take any half-measures when it comes to being prepared for an expedition on such an unprecedented scale. I promise to be a little more communicative as we build up to our departure for Antarctica in October 2007! Feel free to drop me a line at any time. Best wishes to you all, Ben Saunders
