Hidden: This is probably a dumb question: After following baseball for years now, I have a question. Maybe it's because I never noticed before, but can anyone explain the trade deadline in the MLB? I thought it was weeks ago (when Carlos Lee left my Brewers) and there are trades still happening. Thanks :)

Heres a solid article thats easy enough to understand. About the Conine deal- it seems like the Phillies are trying to gear up for the playoffs after trading Abreu and Lidle to the Yankees. Anyone think that Philly has a legitimate shot at the playoffs?

After July 31st trades can still take place but a player has to clear waivers first. Anyone can claim the player with priority going to the team with the worst record. If he clears waivers a trade can still be made. If anyone claims the player the team can pullhim back or let him leave with no compensation in return.

Questions like this would be better in the locker room.
